So Elijah. . . went to find Elisha . . . Elisha was plowing 12 acres of land and was working on the last acre when Elijah came. Elijah went t Elisha and put his coat on Elisha. Elisha immediately left his oxen and ran after Elijah. Elisha said, “Let me kiss my mother and father goodbye. Then I will follow you.” Elijah answered, “You can do that. I will not stop you. ” Elisha turned away from him and went back. He killed the oxen and used the yoke for firewood. He boiled the meat, gave it to the people, and they all ate together. Then Elisha went to follow Elijah and became his helper.
1 Kings 19:19-21 ERV
Elisha was being called to be a prophet! He didn't finish plowing the last acre! When U call, my response should be like Elisha’s! He did ask permission to say goodbye to his parents. That was appropriate & could be a challenge! But apparently, his folks willingly released him!
The next challenge was to get rid of his tools of his trade & he did! When U call, these are the right kind of responses!
Whether it's about a call like this or its when U come to call me into Your Family - to leave whatever I'm in & committed to - & become a Christian - Elisha demonstrates the style & depth of response that matches Your call!
I want to always be ready & willing to respond this fully to U!
